On my boat, I have a system of 8:1 blocks on each
shroud, the tails from these then join together
and go into another 2:1 purchase(3:1 when v.windy
force 5/6). This works well because the loads
are kept where they are meant to be i.e. at the
end of the shrouds/shroud plates.

It does mean you double up on some blocks.
When you set it up you want around 7 inches travel
some people have more / some less.

The cheapest way is to lead the shrouds down into
the boat join them together and then go into a
pulley system.
This is fine except the loads have to be
transported into the boat. More often than not
it is sensible to build frame to support the
loads.

The easiets way I can think of would be to use
two high powered muscle boxes at the bottom of each stay
along with shroud levers.

Shroud levers are still handy even with adjustable
rig.

The problem you will find if you put blocks at each
shroud is how to get enough travel on the final purchase
when they are joined together.

Jib forestay adjustment needs much less power and preferably
more travel.

I used proctor and holt(higher loads) metal ball bearing
blocks on the first blocks and then normal ronstan blocks.
Whole thing adds up to significantly less than buying muscle
boxes and they work better -SO LONG AS YOU MAKE SURE
all blocks line up correctly fit them with care!

Some people have two sets of purchases for lighter
winds with more travel and one with more purchase
less travel. Peronally I think thats excessive!

I'm unsure which side of atlantic you are on but if
possible, it is actually worth your while going
and looking at a few boats at a club nearby - its
rare to find two boats set up the same
- sadly most people will be more than happy to
show you their blocks and tackle!! and you'll be
glad to get away.

If you've read this far, I hope this helps
