BUOYANCY CONTROL DEVICES-BCD's

There is a wide variety of BCD's on the market today. A truly well fitting and comfortable BCD makes diving a pleasure. Once you have determined that a BCD fits properly then take into consideration the features and design of the device. The best way to look at BCD's is to put them into group.

Advanced Design Jacket

The least expensive BCD is the Advanced Design Jacket with a hard backpack. It features an extra large pocket with Velcro closures. "D" rings provide easy attachment of accessories. Quick release-adjustable shoulder connections make it easy to get into or out of, and a Velcro cummerbund add stability and comfort. Priced under $300.00, this is an excellent buy for the budget minded diver.

Weight Integrated Advanced Design Jacket

The Weight Integrated Advanced Design jacket is the current rage. With all of the features of the standard ADV, this jacket adds side weight pockets eliminating the need for a cumbersome and uncomfortable weight belt. Plush padding at all major contact points provide comfort even without a wetsuit. An outward inflating bladder prevents BCD squeeze and makes this an extremely comfortable BCD.

Women's BCD

Women's BCD's

Women's BCD's are now very popular. The weight-integrated design is the most popular for women today. For years manufacturers would take a standard BCD, trim it in pink and call it a "Women's BCD." Today many manufacturers are custom producing BCD's with the female figure in mind. Women's BCD's are cut higher on the hips to prevent pinching when sitting down. They are weight-integrated eliminating the pressure of weights on the hips. The shoulder straps articulate directly to the cummerbund instead of the bladder for more support and less riding up.   .
Back Inflation BCD's

While most divers utilize a jacket style BCD, the Back-Mounted BCD is fast gaining in popularity. These streamlined BCD's offer increased comfort and fit since the bladder is mounted behind the diver instead of around the torso. The placement of the bladder also makes it easier for the diver to assume a more horizontal position while diving. Strategically placed "D" rings allow the diver to carry an ample supply of accessories while the weight-integrated feature increases both comfort and streamlining.
